Copper-Hewitt

About the museum
The Cooper-Hewitt is dedicated to advancing the public’s understanding of design across the twenty-four centuries of human creativity. The museum, which is part of the Smithonian Institution, offers a wide variety of both cutting-edge and traditional exhibitions and a dynamic educational program.

Heller at the museum
In its landmark New York home, the splendid Andrew Carnege Mansion on Fifth Avenue, the Cooper-Hewitt welcomes its guests to museum openings, special receptions, and for educational gatherings. And the chair used for these events? The Bellini Chair.

As the only U.S. museum devoted solely to historic and contemporary design, The Cooper-Hewitt showcases the impact of design on daily life. On warm summer days in 2005 and 2006, museum guests could step into the lovely garden – and also enjoy the many Heller pieces exhibited on the museum lawn: The Frank O. Gehry Collection, Joe by De Pas d’Urbino Lomazzi, and Capitello by Studio 65.

Every year in November, over 400 American designers, architects, and stylemakers gather at The Cooper-Hewitt for the gala National Design Awards dinner. For several years, no matter how different their styles, that evening they all had one thing in common: they all sat on The Bellini Chair.

Heller products also feature in the Cooper-Hewitt collection. In 2001 Massimo Vignelli’s rainbow mugs were exhibited in the show “Aluminum By Design: From Jewelry to Jets.” And the Vignelli quatrefoil is in the museum’s permanent collection.
